I'm able to get my souncast sytem to play using my HP laptop and the Rhapsody software player but he music is distorted, garbled and "breaks up". Works fine on my wifes HP with the same player

What products from Soundcast are you using?
Did you try using different cables? The problem might be related to a bad contact in the junction between your audio cable and the jack on your computer.
