Subject: Outcast Transmitter / Receiver Problem??
Author: DavidT (12:30AM, Jan 06, 2011)

I have had my outcast since early 2009, bought whilst living in Jakarta and it worked flawlessly until I moved to Bali in Sept 2010.

Problem
No audio from speaker.
Intermittant flashing blue light on transmitter.
transmitter and reciever are set to same channel - problem repeated when changing to channels 2 and 3
Ipod wired directly to Outcast works fine.
Powered up / down, tried different ipod, and other mp3 device - no joy.
Took transmitter dock back to Jakarta whilst visiting friends and tested on friends outcast system - works perfectly.

So it appears that the dreaded flashing blue light is not definitively a transmitter power problem as I have read about often.

As this product is no longer under warranty, I would be very grateful for any help in trying to identify the actual problem, and ultimately a way to get this system working again.

I do not believe there is any service facilities for these products in Indonesia as they are certainly grey imports.

If the receiver unit in the outcast speaker is the problem - can it be user repaired with spare parts from Soundcast?

I currenly work in Singapore, and if necessary could hand carry it back from Bali to be serviced, though due to its weight this is not a preferred option.

All help gratefully appreciated.

David,
I can see that the TX is defective piece. If there's a flashing blue LED light it means the transmitter's power supply has gone bad due to significant variations on the line voltage. Just as a side note, this has never happened in the U.S.
Now, you said that you took the transmitter with you to a different location and it worked fine. This could have happened because the voltage and quality of the AC power line in the 2nd location might be just in the border line where the supply can still work fine, or maybe you used your friend's power supply. My advice is to get a new supply for your transmitter from your local distributor.

Omar,
Many thanks for your prompt response. I did indeed use my own wall charger with the doc at my friends place. So it seems the local power supply is the problem in Bali (hardly surprising if you saw the wiring in my place there). Can you direct me to where i can buy a replacement wall charger in either Singapore or Indonesia? or indeed other location which I can mail order from (i need 220v product).

Note that the power supply still manages to charge the ipod in the dock - would you expect this?

David

And here's the one in Indonesia:

They should be able to help you.
Even if the unit is capable of recharging your iPod my best guess is that your iCast transmitter's Power Supply is defective as a blinking LED is the typical symptom of this type of malfunction.
