The SpeakerCast's sound was warm and clear. The bass didn't drop heavy, but the bass sounded pretty decent. I didn't notice any distortion at loud volumes. I didn't get a chance to try out songs with a lot of high notes in it. That's something I'll definitely need to do in the full review. It did a good job of filling the 100 square-foot conference room we were in.
The SpeakerCast has a very small remote control that's about the size of a Compact Flash card. The remote has basic iPod track controls and volume adjustment. This may sound odd, but to use the remote, you point it to the SpeakerCast, and if it has to do any iPod controls, the SpeakerCast has to then transmit a signal to the iPod docked in the iCast. This probably caused the slight delay I experienced when I paused a track.
The unit I saw was an engineering unit. We'll do a full review of a shipping unit when they're available this summer.
Points to consider:
> Shelf-sized iPod speaker in compact form.
> Uses separate (but included) iCast transmitter as iPod dock.
> $399

The right choice for the right place
My Klipsch subwoofer went on my 2.1 computer speaker system...so I needed a replacement setup for my rec room. Even though I wasn't convinced this was the right direction to go in, I bought this anyway for a few reasons.
1. I became a proud owner of the Soundcast Outcast this past summer, and I'm thoroughly impressed by the sound quality and technology it offers. Unbelievable.
2. Since I already had my Mac setup to use the transmitter for the Outcast, it made sense to use the same technology indoors to make life easier.
3. I got this for 60% off list, and figured I couldn't go wrong.
Well after getting it set in place in my rec room, I was less than impressed. Where the sound was clean and balanced...it just didn't have enough umph to fill the area. Of course I was used to a 6.5 inch sub, so I was wasn't totally shocked it was lacking in this area.
Before returning it or throwing it up on eBay, I moved it to my kitchen in hopes it would suffice there. I must say it's the perfect solution for that application! I put it on top of the cabinets and it fills the room very nicely. (It made my wife happy too!) I would also assume it would be great in a bedroom or office environment.
In summary, if your looking for a dependable plug-n-play wireless solution for normal listening levels and/or background music, this is a great piece of technology. If you're looking for party level music or filling a larger area with solid bass I would look elsewhere.

Easy to move around. You get excellent sound from Speakercast.
Very easy to move around and use in any room in your house. I regularly use it my home office while I'm working and in the kitchen while cooking. The sound quality is much better than the last speaker I had and that one wasn't even wireless. A+ product.

Love It!
I got a SpeakerCast for the office and love it. The sound is perfect for indoors and one stereo speaker creates plenty of sound.
